Orange Chicken - Air Fryer Recipe

Serves: 3 servings
Ingredients
  • 1 lbs chicken breast
  • 2 TBS rice wine vinegar
  • 2 TBS Chinese cooking wine (divided)
  • 1 cup brown sugar (use ¾ cup if you don't want it as sweet)
  • 2 TBS honey
  • 1 cup flour
  • 3 TBS light soy sauce
  • 1 cup cornstarch, additional 1 TBS for slurry
  • ½ cup orange juice
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 tsp red chili flakes (optional)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 tsp salt (divided)
  • 1 tsp black pepper (divided)
  • 3 TBS water
  • cooking oil spray
  • greens onions
  • toasted sesame seeds
Instructions
  1. Cut chicken breasts into small pieces and set aside
  2. Crack an egg into a large bowl and whisk
  3. Add chicken pieces into the egg mixture and season with 1 tsp of salt and ½ tsp of black pepper along with 1 TBS of Chinese cooking wine and mix
  4. Combine flour, 1 cup cornstarch, 1 tsp salt and ½ tsp black pepper into a large ziplock bag and shake to combine
  5. Toss chicken and egg mixture into the ziplock bag with flour mixture and shake and shake off any excess flour from chicken and place on tray and spray with cooking oil spray
  6. Place coated flour chicken into air fryer tray and set temperature to 370 degrees Fahrenheit for 12 minutes
  7. Open tray from air fryer and flip the chicken to the other side and use cooking oil spray to coat the chicken pieces
  8. Put chicken back into the air fryer and cook for another 12 minutes until golden brown
  9. For Sauce, follow the next steps: Add 1 TBS Chinese cooking wine, rice wine vinegar, soy sauce, minced garlic, grated ginger and mix
  10. Add orange juice and brown sugar and mix until brown sugar dissolves
  11. Add slurry (1 TBS cornstarch and 3 TBS water and mix)
  12. Mix until it thicken into a syrup texture and add honey
  13. Let sauce cool for 5 minutes before adding cooked chicken and toss together
  14. Garnish with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds
Notes
Coat the chicken pieces in the flour mixture in batches.
Cut open open one of the cooked chicken pieces to make sure it's cooked through.
