Sawada Coffee

If you’re a coffee lover, then Sawada Coffee is a must on your list of things to do in Chicago.  It is owned by Hiroshi Sawada, a well renowned Japanese barista and latte art championship winner.  Sawada Coffee opened in late 2015 and is located in the West Loop of Chicago.

I tried it’s signature Military Latte.  It’s a combination of green tea-based and espresso coffee-based lattes.  It’s brewed perfectly to drink although you can ask the barista to brew it at a higher temperature.  The Military Latte did not disappoint.  It is glorious with its combination of green tea, vanilla syrup, cocoa powder and a shot of espresso.  It is exquisite and aesthetically almost too pretty to drink.  Sawada Coffee also carries Doughnut Vault.  My favorite is their traditional pistachio donut.  It’s light, airy and smack lickin’ good. Hands down they have Voodoo Donuts beat!

If my memory serves me correct, the massive decorated USA espresso machine is from Australia.  Hiroshi Sawada is sketch on the skateboards hanging on the wall as artwork along with the many mini light bulbs hanging across the high vaulted ceilings.  It provides an industrial, whimsical and mystical vibe to the atmosphere.

Sawada Coffee is a hidden jem in the West Loop of Chicago and one of my top picks!  There’s no tricks or gimmicks at Sawada Coffee like other coffee shops offering gold and silliness in their coffee. It’s the real deal and I can’t wait for my next trip back to Chicago!

Location: Sawada Coffee, 112 N. Green Street, Chicago, IL 60607
